Speaking with your bank or pre-qualifying for a mortgage loan can help you set a reasonable budget. Decide the maximum amount of money you plan to spend on your new home, and stick to it.
- What are you seeking in a location?
Location, Location, Location. How close to your office, child’s school or top-notch restaurants do you want to be? Do you prefer a quiet, suburban setting or relish having the hustle and bustle of the city outside your front door? Do you envision building a home in a new neighborhood, or purchasing an open lot in an established community? All of these questions are important points to consider when choosing the spot for your new home.
- What do you have in mind for your new home’s size and style?
The answer to this question may change as you look at lots and floor plans – but having an initial idea of what you want up front will help you narrow down the options. What best suits your needs - a single-level or two-story home? There also are many styles of homes in Atlanta – from craftsman to contemporary to traditional. Each has a distinct character, look and feel.
You also have to consider the lot on which your home will be built. Wooded lots provide privacy, while small lots offer low maintenance. Also, consider which direction your house will face to determine how much natural light your home will have and what time of day it will receive the most sunlight.
